SETTING A BUDGET

Setting a dress budget might not be the most glamorous part of wedding planning—but it is one of the most important. Coming into your appointment with a clear budget helps keep the experience fun, focused, and stress-free, and allows your stylist to guide you toward dresses you’ll love and feel good about purchasing.

Your dress budget includes more than just the gown itself. Here’s how we recommend breaking it down:

The dress
Dresses at Something Blue typically start around $1,200 and go up from there. With over 1,000 gowns in-store, we’re able to help you find a dress that fits both your vision and your budget. Knowing your comfortable max ahead of time is key. We also offer a payment plan with a 50% deposit to make the process more manageable.

Accessories
Veils, jewelry, headpieces, belts, and shoes all fall into this category. These finishing touches pull your look together, but they should be accounted for when setting your overall budget.

Alterations
Every gown—yes, every one—will need alterations. If you choose to alter your dress with us, we recommend budgeting around $500. This includes approximately three fittings and up to 30 hours of hands-on work by our in-house alterations team to ensure your dress fits like it was made just for you.

Customizations
Want to add sleeves, adjust a neckline, or make your gown uniquely yours? Many dresses can be customized, but these changes may come with an additional cost.

Sales tax
Something Blue charges 7% state sales tax, which should also be factored into your total budget.

A little planning up front goes a long way—and we’re here to help you navigate every step with clarity and confidence. 💙
