Go Blue for Kids: Boys & Girls Club Charity Gala Décor

When we first heard about the Boys & Girls Club’s fundraising gala, we knew immediately we had to lend our decorating skills to support such a worthy cause. As sponsors and decorators for this event our mission was simple: transform the Sukup Center in Ames, Iowa into a vibrant “Go Blue” celebration that would bring smiles, raise spirits, and ultimately funds for the kids.

Several months before the gala, we gathered as a team to brainstorm and craft a “Go Blue for Kids” vision. After refining our ideas, we built a mood board that blended varying shades of blue with the Boys & Girls Club’s mission: "To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens".

Our goal was to create an uplifting atmosphere that would both celebrate and support the Club’s vital work. With our concept in hand, we sourced materials and designed elegant, blue‑themed displays. We arrived to the venue the night before to transform the space. A cascade of pastel to navy balloons arched above the grand staircase, leading guests toward oversized “B&GC” marquee letters that anchored the entrance.

Each table was appointed with sophisticated blue centerpieces that complemented the theme, and supported the cause of the event. The flowers were provided by Flower Bed, located in Nevada, Iowa.

We created a life‑size floral rendering of the Club’s logo which provided the perfect photo backdrop. This encouraged social sharing, and it spread awareness of the mission of The Boys & Girls Club.

The result exceeded our expectations. The space felt inspiring and cohesive. Guests were engaged, and the décor seamlessly reinforced the Club’s purpose. Decorating for a charity event is about more than just aesthetics. It is about aligning every detail with the organization’s mission, telling a compelling story, and evoking genuine emotion. We’re thrilled that the Boys & Girls Club Gala was an amazing success, and that they surpassed their fundraising goal! We look forward to working with them in the future!
